I guess we avoided people dying in the streets but I find it rather depressing that Mayor Coleman, The Dispatch, and the Chamber of Commerce threatened the city residents into raising their own taxes out of fear that the failure of Issue 1 would mean unsafe streets and all of Columbus turning into a bad neighborhood in Detroit.
Sad too that the opposition couldn’t be more organized and funded so as to get a little more than three thousand people to vote No and change the outcome.

I suspect the outcome would be different if the majority of those who actually PAY the tax had been allowed to vote on it. You know – the 53% who live outside Columbus city limits, but get taxed anyway?
I don’t see anyone coming to pay my garbage fees or subsidize my family’s pool membership. Why the hell should I do that for Columbus residents?
