I have documented former job czar Lee Fisher’s lack of a spine in the past and now Rob Portman‘s campaign makes the point:
As Congress moves closer to passing the Democrats’ job-killing healthcare bill, Portman for Senate Campaign Manager Bob Paduchik called on Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher to make clear where he stands on what some have called the most historic legislation in a generation.
“Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher is well known for trying to ‘have it both ways’ by flip-flopping on the issues,” Paduchik said. “He dodged an appearance with President Obama this week in Cleveland and skipped out on a scheduled radio interview in Finley when it became clear the host would ask Fisher about his position on the Democrats’ healthcare bill.
“While we disagree with the position Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has taken on this bill, she should be commended for taking a clear stand. It’s time now for Fisher to make clear to Ohioans on where he stands on this legislation. Does Ohio’s Job Czar Lee Fisher stand with President Obama and Democratic Party leaders trying to pass a job-killing healthcare bill or does oppose this flawed bill? Will Ohio voters get a direct answer from Fisher or will this be another example of what is becoming a classic political dodge?”
You have to admit Fisher has a real dilemma on his hands. Say he supports the bill and he loses any centrist credibility he may have had left. There is nothing centrist or bipartisan about this monstrosity and the Democrats in Washington are willing to do anything to get it passed – constitutional or not.
But if Fisher doesn’t support it then he gives Jennifer Brunner the progressive mantle all to herself and allows her to hammer him for not having the courage to do what is right, etc. etc.
Well, you know what? Tough. As the saying goes, politics ain’t beanbag. Are as I believe one of Fisher’s favorite politicians said in a primary recently (albeit a losing effort) “If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.”
So what is it going to be Lee?
