When Republicans were in control of Congress and he could have earmarks, he sent a $300,000 earmark grant in the 2005 budget to millionaire Buster Douglas to support for Douglas's private development deal. He sent it through a well=known character Walter Cates Main Street Business Association that had just been busted for forging checks they submiteed for money from their federal grant through Columbus. Columbus had already cut Cates money due to the scandle, but Tiberi still funnelled the $300K that way. Of corse, the development deal never got done, but the $300,000 disappeared. POOF! -- just like that our tax dollars were sucked out and down the drain and it looked like a payoff (Douglass was coincindently $300K in late taxes to the City at the time).
