I meant to post this after the Energy Summit but life and technical difficulties intervened. The chart was used by Jolene Thompson from AMP Ohio during her presentation. By way of explanation, the chart show capacity factors for the various forms of generation. The charts assume coal, nuclear, hydroelectric, wind and solar generating facilities, each with a capacity of 50 MW.
The chart shows how much actual energy you could expect to receive from of each of these facilities in a year’s time. The data is based on the projected performance for facilities in this region of the country. Coal 90%; Nuclear 80%; Hydro 65%; Wind 25%; Solar 18%. Also it is important to note that we’re talking about run-of-the-river hydroelectric generation similar to the projects AMP has under development.
I think it says a lot about just what is possible with renewable energy and why Cap and Trad would be so devastating.
